Illustrated, pp xi, 354, (i), lacking the front endpaper, otherwise clean and sound internally, original boards, a bit battered and worn, joints cracking but sound. [The scarce original printing, forming Journal of Economic and Taxonomic Botany, Additional Series, 21]. {A general account of the family is provided in which a brief history of the family, morphology, distribution, habitat, dispersal and classification are discussed. During the past six years hundreds of specimens were studied to make detailed descriptions of most of the species. Sixty illustrations covering almost all the genera in the state are included which make identification of the concerned taxa easy. Detailed descriptions of a total number of 163 species, 6 subspecies and 9 varieties coming under 23 genera are provided along with information on flowering and fruiting season, habitats, distribution etc. Keys to the species and infra pecific taxa were prepared by sorting out characters from the descriptions made and these keys will be useful for identification of sedge. We hope this book will be useful, especially to students, botanists, environmentalists, agriculturists and foresters. As most species have a wide range of distribution this can be used to identify sedges of other parts of the country also especially of peninsular India.}
